academia in twain (sentences)

almost every class I’ve ever taken moves too fast for me; many teachers are often much more aware of when they are agreed with rather than when material is well presented, dreading the quiet, blank stares—and not that they aren’t bastions of light and beacons of hope, honest authorities to be trusted, but this is no way for ideas to evolve or for there to be a fair exchange of thought: it is the crux of the matter, the heart of an idea, the essence of a theory, its roots and apparent direction which are what we need to understand in order that we progress, otherwise we only alleviate the apparent stresses of systemic conditions but do not assess their greater cause—and, then, the most any student will trust any teacher with will be for the grade they receive.

of course, this demands upheaval of current trends in academia, as it is as ingrained in it’s own culture and basic foundations as any kind of people might be, which, though widely accepted, is silly, because of globalization, for one, and so the plethora of viable approaches to any of the world’s concerns or questions, but also because it’s sheer folly to expect masses of individuals to comply with sets of arbitrary standards, not simply happily, but that they then retain a sense of identity in their academic work, rather than become a process or a number: the bulk of innovative thought must by definition oppose the status quo, but yet we expect flexibility and establish walls instead of establishing flexibility and expecting walls, walls that would be climbed, scaled and toppled over; hoping for forgiveness while insisting in our ways.
