not that I would ever surrender,

not that I would ever surrender, but
were I less than pure dirt to you,
I could still see you honored and honorable,
and respect whatever choice you make—

for, who respects you because he loves and admires you,
no matter what it was you ever did to him—
and then how high are you held with he you admired and loved,
and could never ever slight or wrong or betray—

not that I could ever surrender, but
were I less than pure dirt to you,
I would still see you honored and honorable:

only praise piercing through
is for-ever-most true—
(I believe in you)

so may then, all those you’ll laud, you lead with grace—
